The L9 Mine layer was used in conjunction with the L10 Ranger Anti-personnel mine dispersal system to create an in-depth mine field. Both of these were normally used in conjunction with the FV432 APC. Anti-personnel mines were sewn to hamper the clearance of the anti-tank mines.
The L9 Barmine was quicker and easier to lay than the standard round anti-tank mine.
